Remedial Massage Therapy

January 2008

Are you suffering from occasional migranes due to your stiff neck?

Are you having back ache problems due to long hours at the computer and no time to exercise?

Are you having muscle aches and have problems even lying down to sleep?

Instead of resorting to drugs and medication, a good alternative to try is remedial massage therapy.

Remedial massage is a holistic treatment; that is, a treatment for the whole of the body, as well as the area being treated.

Remedial massage uses several specialized skills to locate and repair damage and speed up the body?s repair mechanism. A professional remedial massage therapist has to draw on his knowledge of anatomy, physiology, related pathology and the techniques of Swedish massage, heat and cold therapies, Kinesthetics and many other related fields for a complete treatment.

Also, the professional massage therapist will use information about your lifestyle, being your food diet, exercise regime, medical history, etc. for diagnosis.

Remedial massage can involve gentle to strong strokes as well as shallow to deep strokes. It works on the fact that soft muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia is responsive to touch. Sensitive points in the muscles often refer to pain in other parts of the body. For instance, headaches may originate from muscles in the neck and pelvic pains can be caused by certain areas in the abdominal and pelvic area. Remedial massage helps to stimulate blood flow in these areas, thus reducing pain, swelling and pain, and speeding up the body?s natural healing process.

Remedial massage is one of the most effective and natural treatment for stress related conditions. Balance is ultimately restored to your body system when your body parts are functioning optimally. You feel a sense of renewal and more energized that ever before!

Need More Clients For Your Alternative Medicine Practice?

January 2008

The most common complaint I hear when I talk to any kind of alternative or complementary therapy practitioner is ?I can’t get enough new clients’.

Given that there are around 250,000 complementary therapists in the UK alone, it’s not surprising that they can’t all find enough work to keep themselves busy.

But the biggest issue most of them face has nothing to do with their skills as a therapist. Most have been well trained, have the interests of their clients at heart and are able to do a brilliant job for them.

The problem is that, when they decided to make the change from a regular job to being an alternative practitioner, they forgot about one thing. They were also leaping from a secure job to the uncertainty of self employment. That is a HUGE change, even if you stay in the same line of work. But when you factor in a change of profession, it’s no wonder that this double whammy catches out so many therapists.

Now that you are self employed, it’s up to you to get the telephone ringing on a regular basis. To make that phone ring, you may have to spend many weeks promoting yourself and your new practice. The right level of marketing could mean that you spend all your time on it for the first few months and 50% plus for the another three or four months. Many therapists would rather eat nails than spend all their time marketing. They don’t like doing it, and they need some cash now to start paying off their college bills.

People don’t always feel comfortable coming to your home, so it improves your credibility if you can find a clinic and rent a room by the hour or session. If the clinic offers services which compliment rather than compete with yours, you can cross-refer clients to each other with almost zero marketing cost. Once you have an address to work from, it’s time for the first stage of your campaign - placing fliers in local shops, cafes and anywhere else that will take them.

Then, you can start using the greatest marketing tool of all, the internet. There are lots of low cost packages around where you can use a template design and have control of the content without having to go to a programmer each time. Focus on the benefits that you offer, include some testimonials from early clients and learn about Google adword campaigns to send targeted traffic to your site. Then look at some of the latest ?social marketing’ sites such as Youtube and Myspace to spread the word about what you do through viral marketing.

Sound like a lot of work? We haven’t talked about your database, direct mail, referral systems, autoresponders or conventional advertising yet. It’s all too much for a single article, so to see what lessons I’ve learned in growing National Nutrition Clinic from a standing start to one of the UK’s leading integrated medicine clinics conducting 10,000 patient consultations a year, please follow the link below and sign up for the report.

Please take this first step on the road to success in your practice.

Neem: Your Natural Remedy For Yeast Infections, Part I

January 2008

Neem can eliminate oral thrush, Candida infections, skin yeast infections and any other type of yeast / fungal infection. It is your one-stop-shop “miracle herb” for getting rid of yeast infections.

An important point to stress is that Neem is a natural remedy for yeast infections, and has actually shown to be more effective on certain yeasts/fungi than man-made synthetic options such as prescription drugs.

Neem is a safe, versatile, organic and natural treatment option for health conditions. It is one of the most ancient and widely-used herbs in the world, yet it’s also relatively un-heard of by people dependant upon today’s modern medicine. Once you use Neem and see the results, you’ll think of Neem first to treat a multitude of conditions; getting rid of a yeast infection is just the beginning.

This article is broken into Part I and Part II. Part I explains what Neem is, and why Neem should be at the top of your list for treatment options. Part II will identify steps you should take to eliminate a yeast infection, as well as some detailed suggestions for treatment with Neem.

So — what is Neem? Neem (Azadirachta indica A. juss) is the common name for a tree originating from India - a source of natural remedies for 5,000 years. Each part of the tree may be used to improve health: fruit, root, leaf, flower, bark, and seed. Neem products use these ingredients singularly and in combination. Neem has so many uses that different cultures refer to it as “the blessed tree” and “the village pharmacy.” Historically, a few of the common healing uses of Neem include leaf tea for oral thrush, or reduce symptoms of illness and prevent malarial infection; brushing teeth with twigs or bark; leaves and seed oil placed on infections or wounds; burning leaves around the body for a cleansing healing smoke during sickness; and chewing Neem leaves to induce temporary sterility to prevent conception.

Neem is internationally recognized as one of the safest herbs, and an excellent option as a natural remedy for yeast infections, especially when compared to the harmful side effects of modern prescription medicine. Neem has only a few caveats: restrict use on very young infants or the elderly; not for consumption or internal use before or during conception by either sex (due to contraceptive effect); and Neem oil is not for consumption. When compared for example, to antibiotics, which are harsh on the stomach, weaken the immune system, and build a toxic load in the body, you can see why Neem is a “natural” choice to restore your health in a healthy way. In addition, bacteria and the body?s defense system builds resistance to antibiotics through repeated use, whereas Neem causes no resistance. The first time you use Neem will be as effective as the last.

To treat a yeast infection, you’ll need to identify exactly what type of yeast infection you have. Is it dandruff or oral thrush? Or yeast on the skin such as Tinea Versicolor? Or perhaps yeast is a secondary issue, as in psoriasis, eczema, and acne? Yeast can also be internal, such as vaginal yeast infections, or systemic Candidiasis (Candida infection) which can lead to even greater health threats. Pick your poison, because Neem can kill them all.

Sleep Well With Natural Salt Lamps

January 2008

Natural salt lamps are a unique way you can improve the quality of your sleep. A natural salt lamp is basically a salt crystal with a light source built into it.

These natural salt crystals were created millions of years ago and are mostly found in salt mines around the world. The heat from the light source causes the crystal to emit an electrical charge, releasing negative ions into the air. Negative ions are the ?vitamins of the air?, and are beneficial to our health and well being.

Studies have shown that small quantities of negative ions can quickly kill bacteria in the air. Negative ions are found in huge quantities in vicinities of natural settings like the forest and waterfall, and the quantities of these ions drop drastically in the presence of electrical equipment, like TV sets, computers and microwave ovens. Electrical equipment produce positive ions, which are known as ?fatigue? ions, because they have harmful effects on the body. So the salt lamp is kind of like a natural ionizer that can be used to freshen up the air in the room. Imagine your room smelling like the rainforest or fresh after a thunderstorm! Some common areas where people put their salt lamps would be next to a computer, or other electrical equipment to ?neutralize? the positive ions. Putting one at your bed side table could do wonders to improve your sleep quality.

Because these salt lamps are natural air purifiers, they are helpful for people with respiratory problems like asthma. In fact Speleotherapy is an alternative form of treatment for asthma patients in Eastern Europe which involves spending a few hours a day in underground salt mines for a few months.

The salt crystals used to make the salt lamps come in different natural colors ranging from white to orange to purple. The purple Persian salt lamps have been known as a more effective aid for insomnia as people have reported sleeping better if they used a purple salt lamp in their room.

Reiki And Other Healing Methods?it All Amounts To Energy, Love And God

January 2008

If you are attracted to energy healing now, it?s likely that you were a healer in past lives. Perhaps you did this work, for example, as a Native American, Eastern Indian, Asian, or in a lost civilization such as Atlantis.

Everyone has some healing ability, and some have more than others. This is not a ?gift? as some people call it. That would imply that some great force in the Universe arbitrarily gave that one person a ?gift? instead of to another person, and things don?t work like that in the spirit world. There?s always a reason why someone has a talent, and that reason is largely because the talent was developed over lifetimes. They?ve done it before, many times.

Regarding Reiki, this is an energy healing modality that can only be transferred from teacher to student because the teacher uses specific symbols to open the student to the Reiki energy. Those with a natural talent for healing will be able to use the energy more so than those without a talent, but usually those with a talent are drawn to Reiki.

It?s possible, in our opinion, that Reiki was one of the first energy healing methods, but it didn?t go by the name of Reiki until it was rediscovered by a monk in Japan long ago. Reiki is a great way to access healing ability.

There are many other healing methods. Some of them are just Reiki or other forms of ?hands-on? healing with a new name and techniques added. But all stem from ancient energy healing methods used in Egypt, Atlantis, and elsewhere. It?s all basically the same thing: Energy/Love/God.

If you would like to practice healing work, we recommend starting with some research about ancient energy healing methods, including the first known methods that were used in India, Egypt, and with Native Americans. Learning about these will stimulate your subconscious memories of when you were a healer in past lives. Follow your intuition and you will be guided about what to do next in order to develop your healing abilities.

By the way, avoid all drugs if you want to keep your intuition clear and open to your healing energy as they will cut you off from ?the source? (i.e., White Light, or God) and attract negative energy.

Preventing Sinus Congestion During A Massage

January 2008

Being a Massage Therapist I give a lot of massages to all sorts of people at my San Antonio, Texas practice. Like my clients I love to get a wonderful therapeutic massage as often as I can.

However, like many other people I sometimes have a problem with sinus congestion while lying face down during the massage session. There are number of causes for the sinus congestion such as seasonal allergies, and irritants such as smoke, pollution, dust and molds. The sinus congestion makes it difficult to breath through the nose and properly enjoy the massage.

There are many things that Massage Therapists like myself do to assist clients with sinus congestion during the massage therapy session. Adjustments to the face rest are helpful as are acupressure points that help to relieve sinus pressure. Other things that are helpful include the use of essential oils like pine, eucalyptus, or peppermint to open up sinus passages. Less commonly used breathing aids include cold gel-filled face masks or nasal strips. The problem with all of these measures is that they’re somewhat hit-or-miss, the best way to combat sinus congestion during massage is to prevent it in the first place.

My favorite method of preventing sinus congestion is sinus irrigation. Sinus irrigation is actually a very old way of coping with congestion, allergies, and post-nasal drip. Simply, sinus irrigation is exactly what it sounds like -using a saline solution to gently wash out mucous, dust, pollen, and other irritants. A popular method of sinus irrigation is to use a “neti” pot. It’s a small pot that looks somewhat like a small teapot or gravy boat. To use the neti pot you fill it with a warm saline solution which is made with chlorine-free water (distilled or purified drinking water) and a packet(s) of pure salt. It’s important that you don’t use table salt to make your saline solution because table salt contains iodine and anti-coagulants that wouldn’t be good for you. Once you’ve made your solution and filled the pot you will need to pour it in one nostril and let it run out the other. To perform the irrigation without swallowing the solution or feeling like you’re drowning follow these steps:

1. Bend at the waist over a sink;

2. Rotate your head as though you’re looking up at the ceiling;

3. Keeping your forehead down and chin up toward the ceiling, place the spout of the neti pot gently into the upper nostril allowing the saline solution to flow into your nose and out the lower nostril;

4. Allow the contents of the neti pot to wash out your sinus passages;

5. When the neti pot is empty keep your head down and forcefully exhale through your nose to blow out any excess saline solution, do this without holding your nostrils closed;

6. Repeat as necessary.

Performing sinus irrigation an hour or two prior to your massage can effectively reduce or eliminate sinus congestion so you can enjoy your massage more. In addition to removing mucous and irritants that cause congestion from your sinuses, the salt in the saline solution is also effective in relieving swelling of sinus membranes.

Sinus irrigation is a simple and safe method of reducing sinus congestion and post-nasal drip but there are some conditions which might make it contraindicated for you. Please check with your doctor prior to performing any sinus irrigation.
